A Hose Reels is basically a cylindrical cylinder made from either plastic metal, or fiberglass and is used mainly for storing a wide variety of hoses. The most commonly known types of hose reels for use in marine applications manual crank, spring driven and motor driven. Hose reels have been classified according to the length and diameter of the hose that they hold, the type of tensioning mechanism, and the rewind method used.
Hoses come in a wide variety of materials like PVC, Nylon, Plastic, Rubber, and Cordura. Hoses may be made of synthetic or natural fibers and polyethylene terephthalate, polypropylene, synthetic nylon, and nylon. When using Hose Reels for storing marine hoses, the water supply should be regularly checked. A hose that has been subjected to moisture for a period of five days will have to be drained or replaced. After this, the next hose to be stored must be checked.
Hose reels may be used on both small and large vessels including boats, ships, powercrafts, and yachts. It is not necessary to use a single type of reels on different vessels. In fact, some hose reels can be used on any vessel. The main types of reels used to store marine hoses are the motor driven, manual crank, and the fixed.
The reel types may differ according to the types of hoses they can hold. While some hoses are capable of holding only a few inches, other hoses are able to handle several inches in length. The length of hoses that can be handled by a particular hose is called the hose diameter. This diameter is measured in millimeters and it is measured in terms of one inch. Hoses that are of different diameters can either be connected or disconnected from each other.
There are three types of tensioning mechanism used in Hose Reels. These are the automatic, the manual, and the hydraulic. Automatic tensioning mechanism is mainly used in the automatic type of reels.
Hose tensioning systems are used mainly because of the speed and accuracy with which the hoses can be transferred from one place to another in the hanger. Hydraulic tensioning system is used mainly when the hose is to be transferred from one point to another in the hanger as compared to the automatic system. Hydraulic systems are easier because they are less prone to wear and tear.
An automated tensioned hose is more accurate than the manual system and the mechanical system which allow the tensioning of the hoses is also faster than the latter. There are different types of tensioning systems that are available in the market that can be adjusted according to the type of hose being used.
There are two types of hangers namely the fixed and the mobile. The fixed type is generally fitted on the boat or ship, whereas the mobile type is used mainly for the purpose of storing marine hoses. A fixed hanger is placed in the middle of the water where the hose is to be attached to be stored in the hanger.
While loading and unloading the hangers, the cables will be attached to the hanger and they will be fixed in the spot fixed on the ship or the boat. A hanger is also placed inside the ship or the boat so that the hose can be disconnected from it when the ship or the boat is ready to sail or leave the dock. Hangers are also connected to the mooring line and when the ship or the boat starts moving, the mooring line will be pulled out and the hanger will be drawn inwards.
There are many kinds of hangers and a hose reel is fitted into the hanger. The main types of hose reels that are used include the single hose reel, double hose reel, multi-hose reel, and the tandem hose reel.
There are also different kinds of hangers that can be used in the transportation of marine hoses such as the two-way hanger, two-way reel, three-way reel, four-way reel, five-way, and six-way reels, eight-way, nine-way and ten-way hangers. All these types of hangers have different characteristics. The two-way reel is used for the transport of two hoses at the same time. The three-way reel is used for the transport of three hoses. The four-way reel is used for the transport of four hoses and the five-way reel for five hoses and the six-way reel is used for the transport of six hoses.
One type of hose reel is referred to as the multi-hanger and there are various types of hangers that are used for the transport of five and six hoses together. This type of reel is also referred to as the tandem reel.
